There are not many choices for us to travel during the pandemic period. However, we made our best decision, visiting Switzerland.
Switzerland makes it so easy to visit many of its spectacular glaciers, and we are so impressed by the mountain trains. And Switzerland is a paradise for hiking, that is the best way to appreciate the mountains. Our trip was combined with public transportation and many hikes, some were easy, and also included a very tough one.
We based in Interlaken, and used the train visited many gems in this area.

For the one who wants to see alpine glacier, just cannot miss this one, the most famous glaciers viewpoints from the top of the Jungfraujoch. The train to the top is indeed very expensive, but if you combine with visiting the Jungfrau region like we did, it certainly worth the money.

The way to Zermatt from Thun was quite fun, apart from the curvy mountain roads, and also for the first time we took a car train, it was very safe, fast and comfortable to go through the mountains. Highly recommend.
Zermatt is not only a famous ski village, it also has one of the world’s most photographed mountains – the Matterhorn, this mountain is magnificent. We made a short visit of mountaineer’s cemetery, when I read the climbers died at age of 19, 25, 38…I kept asking myself why they had to climb it? I guess there is no answer, the Matterhorn is just there. Although Gunther and I were not qualified to climb the Matterhorn, we did quite lots of hikes in this area.
-5 lakes hike an easy hike for our resting day
– Gornergrat, the most beautiful scenic train we have ever took, mount Matterhorn is right next to you. It was a beautiful sunny day with dancing fog in the mountains, such a sensational view.
– Monte Rosa Hütte, the most difficult and scary hike we ever did
Prepare yourself well physically and bring good equipment if you decide to do it. I must say that we didn’t prepare well, and I don’t encourage people to do it without any hiking experience.

We stayed overnight in this famous mountain hut, and chatted with some craziest mountaineers. The professionals wake up at 2am, climb the mountain in the dark and cold, and wait the sunrise at the top. What I have learned from this hike is: Respect the mountain and you will enjoy it more.

The best views always comes after the hard climbs
After visiting Jungfraujoch, I wander where the glacier ends. So here we are, the majestic Aletsch Glacier. There are many viewpoints you can see this largest glacier in the Alps, we chose to drive to Fiesch, and took two cable cars to Eggishorn viewpoint. A massive panoramic view.
