I spend 2 hours at the same spot in front of the Colosseum, to take multiple photos. So I could erase most of all the people out off the picture. Only Yujie didn’t like the time spend at the moment. She would rather be exploring the city in the evening. Probably to find a good restaurant to eat. She is like a little monster when she gets hungry. But in a moment like this, I never feel hungry. I only think about the result that I can get out of it.
The Mao Zedong Statue is a marble sculpture of 30 meters high located in Tiznfu Square, in the center of Chengdu. It has an outstretched arm, like he is waving to something on the other side of square. Well, when I turned my back to him, I only saw him waving in the direction of capitalist stores, like Rolex and Louis Vuitton. Which I found very funny.
On the cliffs in North Italy you find Manarola. It is one of the 5 small villages called “Cinque Terre”. It is the oldest of the five and the second smallest. You can reach it easily by train and walk around the area to other villages. In the evening you have a nice warm atmosphere in this small village.
Hongcun is small village in China and was the film set of the first Chinese movie that went internationally famous. It’s nice to walk around in this ancient village. If you wake up in the early morning, you can shoot a nice reflection photo. In the daytime it’s too busy around the pool. People feeding the fish, wind, etc… makes that you can’t get this photo.
Japan the land of robots. When we think of robots, we direct make a link to the more human looking ones. Star Wars kind of things that can communicate with us. These things can understand our languages, respond on our requests.
Well they are not all like that. In fact most of them are made for practical use. Most common I can think of, are in car producing factories.
But in Tokyo it was the first time a saw a robot train. So I took the ride close to sunset. Because there is no driver, I went to the front window. Set up my camera, push the button and got the photo.
It is a hard 2 days drive, with the local bus. You will need to find a sleeping place around the bus station on the first day, when you arrived in the late evening. In the morning you need to wake very early to get a ticket for the next bus. When you finally arrive on the second day, after hours and hours on an endless bumpy road. Your pain will vanish when your eyes catch the first glimp of this surreal world. A sea of red wooden houses, thousands of pieces making this an incredible labyrinth to walk in.
Yeah, its really amazing to be almost alone on this world heritage side. The photo was taken in the very late afternoon. All the big groups were already gone to take the buses back down. We decided to walk all the way down after sunset, so we could stay till the very last second. The result was this beautiful moment we had together.
Downside was the 1000 mosquito bites we got after sunset and walking back in full darkness to Aguas Calientes. The walk takes about 2 hours.
Nobody likes to be on second place, but it’s nothing to shame of. Especially when your name is “Shanghai Tower”. I have seen this skyscraper building up over the years, when I was visiting Shanghai.
I have a habit of putting my feet on the highest point in a city, if I have the chance. So we visited the top floor together in 2017. Shame that I didn’t bring any gear to shoot a photo through a window. So I can capture it without any reflection. There are some good lens covers on the market for it. Well it gives me a purpose to visit it again.
Anyway, the view on top is spectacular, and I was still able to get a couple of nice photos.
Imagine to live in a cave on the side of a canyon. If you are in one of these caves, you will appreciate your cozy home even more. They are small, dusty and where used as shelter for shepherds. But they have a good view of the old city – Matera.
Almost every year I put my feet on the ground at this formal small fisher village that became an international metropolis. It’s a great place to visit and the view at the Bund you will appreciate. But after I got my DJI drone and flew it in the air, the view became even more spectacular.
So I took some photos from the air and processed it this panorama view of the financial district.
In Belgium everything seems to take a lifetime regarding construction works. But in China, buildings rise out of the ground like mushrooms. Every time I visit this city I am amazed by all the new things that I can see.
